Michael Keane aiming to learn from "classy" Ronald Koeman

Everton defender Michael Keane admits that he is excited to learn from "classy" former centre-back and Toffees boss Ronald Koeman following his summer move from Burnley.

Everton centre-back Michael Keane has insisted that he is looking to learn from new coach Ronald Koeman following his move to the Toffees.

Keane completed a £24m switch from Burnley to Everton during the summer, and the young defender has since admitted that he plans on progressing under the guidance of Koeman, who was regarded as a gifted centre-back during his playing days with Barcelona.

"I definitely feel the manager is the right mentor for me," Keane told the club's official website.

"You see what he has achieved in his career and there's no reason why I can't go on to do that. He was unbelievable and it's not going to be easy but you have to aim high.

"I've had good guidance so far, playing under the likes of Sean Dyche and even Gareth Southgate with England who was a centre-half as well, but to work under Ronald Koeman, another classy centre-half, hopefully I can add another string to my bow.

"The last few years at Burnley I felt that I learnt how to defend the hard way. Now I can show I'm a good footballer as well."

Toffees boss Koeman made 192 appearances while playing for Barca between 1989 and 1995.
