Andy Gray "disappointed" in Leighton Baines

Everton legend Andy Gray admits that he is "disappointed" in Leighton Baines.

Former Everton striker Andy Gray has revealed his disappointment in Leighton Baines for allowing Kevin Mirallas to take over penalty duties against West Bromwich Albion.

Baines is the club's designated penalty taker, but the left-back allowed Mirallas to overrule him in Monday's goalless draw at Goodison Park.

The Belgian struck the post from 12 yards and while Gray bemoaned arrogance from Mirallas, the Scot also admitted his frustration with Baines.

Gray told talkSPORT: "He had a good game when he was introduced at West Ham, scored a fantastic free kick, and maybe that gave him too much belief, too much arrogance.

"I would not have allowed that if I was on the pitch. I know one or two other players got involved and tried to stop him, but Leighton Baines was a little disappointing for me.

"Leighton should have been stronger. He should have said to Kevin 'no, I'm going to get into trouble if I let you take it. I take the penalties, it is 0-0, not 3-0, in a really big game at the bottom of the league, I need to take this penalty, Kevin, because I am going to score it'."

Roberto Martinez's side are currently 13th in the Premier League.
