Frank Lampard brushes off England job links

Everton manager Frank Lampard has brushed off speculation linking him with the England job.

After taking over as Everton boss in January, Lampard guided the club to safety last season, while they are currently in 13th place this term with seven points to their name.

Although his current contract runs until 2024, Lampard was asked about the possibility of taking over from Gareth Southgate should the England manager leave after the World Cup.

As quoted by The Mirror, Lampard said: "I'm very, very happy here and I have got a lot of work to do. I'm trying to help us improve and get us towards the new stadium and all those things. It's not in my thinking at all."

Speaking to reporters ahead of Saturday's away trip to Southampton, the former Chelsea manager was also questioned whether he had begun talks over a new Everton contract.

Lampard added: "No, I've not had any contact and I am not concerned about it because, this might make you laugh, the last time I was asked about a new contract in a press conference was at Chelsea and I got sacked six weeks later!

"I don't like jinxing things. I am not worried about it at the minute. I just want to do my job well. I am enjoying my job and I want to do well. I have seen progress but I know there is a lot of work to do."

After clinching their first league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over West Ham United, Lampard will look to guide his Everton side to three more points on Saturday.
