Gerard Deulofeu praises Roberto Martinez influence, wants long Everton stay

Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu praises Roberto Martinez for his recent form and says that he wants to stay at Goodison Park for the foreseeable future.

Everton youngster Gerard Deulofeu has praised manager Roberto Martinez's influence since he arrived at Goodison Park.

Deulofeu, 21, has been in top form recently and it is rumoured that a call-up to the Spanish senior team is not far away.

"Martinez is the one giving the players that confidence to play," Deulofeu told the Daily Mail. "He wants young competitive players with that mix of experienced players around them and he wants us to play good football.

"I know I need to be in the right position when we are defending, and if I'm not I won't play. I know I have to carry out my defensive duties but then when I'm attacking I can take people on and put crosses into the area."

The winger has a clause in his contract that could see Barcelona sign their former youth player for just £6.3m.
