Clattenburg to ref at Everton for first time since 2007

Referee Mark Clattenburg will take charge of his first Everton game at Goodison Park for over six years when he officiates their clash against Southampton on December 29.

The official has not overseen a match at the home of the Blues since the controversial defeat to Liverpool in a Merseyside derby in October 2007.

On the day, Clattenburg sent off Tony Hibbert and awarded two penalties to the Reds, before waving away an Everton appeal for a spot-kick late on, after Jamie Carragher appeared to wrestle Joleon Lescott to the ground.

Dirk Kuyt was also fortunate to escape a straight red for a high tackle on Phil Neville during the game.

Clattenburg has not refereed a match involving Everton since January 2012.
