Rafael Benitez's managerial record against Liverpool

Rafael Benitez's managerial record against Liverpool

Rafael Benitez has taken charge against Liverpool eight times throughout his career, having mixed results during that time.

The current Everton boss has been in the opposite dugout against the Reds for three different teams, having managed Valencia, Chelsea and Newcastle United against his former club.

However, he was only ever able to manage a team to victory against them before he became the Liverpool manager as his only wins took place in 2002.

Benitez was able to guide Valencia to two victories against the Reds, not conceding a single goal in the process; however, since that point he has not beaten them.

The last three times he faced them ended in defeat for him, with his record being: 2-3-3.

-Valencia 2-0 Liverpool – September 2002 – Win -Liverpool 0-1 Valencia – October 2002 – Win -Liverpool 2-2 Chelsea – April 2013 – Draw -Liverpool 2-2 Newcastle – April 2016 – Draw -Newcastle 1-1 Liverpool – October 2017 – Draw -Liverpool 2-0 Newcastle – March 2018 – Lose -Liverpool 4-0 Newcastle – December 2018 – Lose -Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool – May 2019 – Lose

Benitez will now take charge of Everton for the first time in a Merseyside Derby as the Toffees host the Reds as they look to end their seven-match run without a victory.
