Everton captain Phil Jagielka returns to light training

Everton captain Phil Jagielka steps up his return to action by taking part in light training.

Everton captain Phil Jagielka has returned to light training ahead of his return to action after two months on the sidelines.

The England international suffered medial ligament damage during the Toffees' 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates.

Manager Roberto Martinez recently claimed that the centre-back is ahead of schedule, and after taking part in light training at the weekend, it appears that his return is edging ever closer.

"Jags was running yesterday on the grass, which is always a very good sign," the Liverpool Echo quotes Jagielka as saying. "The next step is to involve him in more football, and the way Jags is I feel we'll see him back available very, very soon."

Everton are currently 10th in the Premier League table.
