Everton manager Roberto Martinez has praised the professional manner in which his side went about their business in the FA Cup clash with Carlisle United this afternoon.
The Toffees scored twice inside the opening 15 minutes to gain complete control of the contest, before adding a third in the second half to book their place in the fifth round.
Carlisle, who were the lowest-ranked team left in the competition, represented a potential banana skin for the out-of-form Everton, but Martinez believes that they handled the occasion well.
"We knew that you can allow these games to be very complicated. I thought we dealt with it with an incredible professionalism. The start of the game allowed us to control the rest of it," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"The fourth round of the FA Cup always brings excitement. I thought we played well and controlled the threat that Carlisle can bring. We scored three goals, created chances and overall we deserved it and look forward to a draw."
There was a report of racist behaviour in the wake of the opening goal, which arrived through Arouna Kone after less than two minutes, but Martinez believes that the officials did well to deal with it quickly.
"I thought it was dealt with in a good manner. Straight away the Carlisle manager Keith Curle and myself, we agreed to make an announcement," he added.
"I thought the referee dealt with that well. The worry was it would be a 90 minutes of abuse but it was just a reaction to a goal being celebrated."
Everton have now won all four of their FA Cup meetings with Carlisle.
