England's Jordan Henderson: 'Scotland clash is not normal, it's massive'

Jordan Henderson says that England's World Cup qualifier against Scotland is "massive" because of the rivalry between the two nations.

England midfielder Jordan Henderson has built up the importance of Friday's clash against Scotland by describing the World Cup qualifier as "massive".

The Three Lions currently top Group F after picking up seven points from their first three games.

Gordon Strachan's Scotland team head to Wembley fourth in the standings following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Slovakia last month.

"Obviously it is a massive game," Henderson told reporters in Thursday's press conference. "If you look at the history of the fixture, it's not a normal game.

"We watched a video of a lot of the past games - there was a few I can remember, especially Paul Gascoigne's goal at Euro 96. The lads know the importance of the game, not only because it's England v Scotland but also because we want to qualify for the World Cup.

"I think the manager (Gareth Southgate) has done brilliantly since he was given the opportunity, and the players are very supportive of him. On the training pitch we've learnt a lot and we're trying to put into practice in the game at the weekend. Hopefully the performance is at a high level and get the three points."

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney will captain England in the game, despite being dropped from the international side's last outing.
