How England could line up against Denmark

Sports Mole looks at how England could line up in Tuesday's UEFA Nations League clash with Denmark.

England's second match in the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League sees them face Denmark on Tuesday night.

The Three Lions opened their League A Group 4 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Iceland on Saturday.

Raheem Sterling scored a late penalty before Iceland missed the chance to level the scores from the spot in the final exchanges, with both teams ending the contest a player down.

Gareth Southgate's side will now be looking to put six points on the board ahead of their next match in the section at home to an impressive Belgium on October 11.

Southgate will have to make at least two changes from the side that started on Saturday as Kyle Walker is suspended due to the red card that he picked up in the 70th minute of the contest, while Phil Foden has been dropped from the squad after breaking quarantine rules in Iceland.

Mason Greenwood, who enjoyed an excellent 2019-20 season for Manchester United, made his debut off the bench on Saturday but has also been omitted for the same reason as Foden.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is the obvious choice to come into the starting XI at right-back, but the rest of the back five, including goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, are unlikely to remain unchanged.

Pickford struggled to impress for Everton during the 2019-20 campaign but was given the nod against Iceland, suggesting that Southgate still views him as the number one despite Nick Pope and Dean Henderson both enjoying excellent seasons in the Premier League for Burnley and Sheffield United respectively.

Jadon Sancho, Harry Kane and Sterling should continue as the front three in a 4-3-3 formation, while Declan Rice is currently the squad's most experienced midfielder and is likely to retain his spot.

Mason Mount could take Foden's spot, with the Chelsea midfielder expected to get the nod over the likes of Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips in the middle of the park.

James Ward-Prowse's position might be up for grabs had Foden been available, but the Southampton midfielder could now feature for the second match in succession due to Southgate's lack of options.
