Terry Venables says Fabio Capello should "never" have criticised Andy Carroll

Venables: 'Capello was wrong to criticise Carroll'

Former England manager Terry Venables has said that Fabio Capello was wrong to speak out about Andy Carroll's personal life.

The Liverpool striker came under criticism from the Italian for his lifestyle, while Reds manager Kenny Dalglish hit back at the claims surrounding his no.9.

Venables believes that the Scot was right to defend the frontman, while Capello should have stayed quiet on the matter.

"Kenny Dalglish is not too happy and I can understand that," Venables told talkSPORT. "Before the World Cup [Capello] was very different. "He was helpful and trying to do the best he could and I think he has felt that has not worked, I’ll go for plan B and have a go at them, but I don’t think that is going to work either.

"I don’t think it's for the England manager to get involved with that, just as Capello would expect that managers in the Premier League shouldn't be discussing him and having a go at what he's doing."

Meanwhile, England sit top of Group G after victories against Bulgaria and Wales in their Euro 2012 qualifiers.
