Kenny Dalglish hits back at Andy Carroll ‘lifestyle’ claims

Dalglish defends Carroll criticism

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has defended striker Andy Carroll after coming under fire from England manager Fabio Capello about his lifestyle and fitness.

The 22-year-old was subjected to criticism from the Italian when he suggested that the frontman changed his off-the-field lifestyle.

Despite Capello’s advice, the Reds manager is confident that Liverpool’s number nine is at peak fitness for club and country.

"As we've said before, Andy was not properly fit last season because of a knee injury but we have been pleased with his level of fitness this season because he has lost that injury," Dalglish told reporters.

"I think Andy is very appreciative of advice from anyone who has a good standing in football.

"I think he appreciates Capello's advice because he has great respect for Fabio and Fabio has great respect for Andy."

The former Newcastle striker failed to make the bench for England’s 3-0 win in Bulgaria and appeared in the closing minutes against Wales at Wembley earlier this week.
