FA chief executive Martin Glenn reveals that Sam Allardyce is the subject of a probe which could end in the former England boss being banned from football.

Sam Allardyce is facing an investigation from his former employers which could potentially lead to a ban from football activity, Football Association chief executive Martin Glenn has revealed.

The 61-year-old was dismissed as England manager last week after being filmed by The Telegraph making comments on circumnavigating the rules on third-party ownership.

Allardyce has already lost what he previously described as his "dream job" of managing the national side, but his woes could be about to get worse as a new probe has now been launched by the Football Association.

FA chief Glenn has revealed that a decision will be taken on "the merits of the evidence" supplied, with Allardyce's "role as a participant in the game" being looked into.

Glenn also admitted that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger would be the "perfect" candidate to replace Allardyce in the long term - a role that is currently being filled by Gareth Southgate for the remainder of the year.
