Marcus Rashford becomes youngest ever player to score on senior England debut

Rashford makes history on England debut

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has become the youngest player in history to score on his senior England debut.

The forward, who is 18 years and 208 days old, scored inside the first three minutes of the Three Lions' international friendly with Australia at the Stadium of Light.

The teenager has surged into the spotlight since making his United debut in February, and now he has bettered Tommy Lawton's 77-year record.

The goal has now strengthened Rashford's campaign for a place in Roy Hodgson's 23-man England squad for Euro 2016, which begins next month.

Hodgson will trim his squad by three before Tuesday's 11pm deadline, and Rashford was expected to be cut due to his lack of experience, but a calf injury to Daniel Sturridge could pave the way for the young striker.

Sturridge was left out of tonight's squad after missing a series of training sessions this week.
