Johnson: 'England players took sleeping tablets'

Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has confirmed that England players took sleeping tablets after their scheduled match with Poland was postponed on Tuesday night.

A waterlogged pitch resulted in Tuesday's match being called off after 10pm in Warsaw, and Johnson has revealed that he and his teammates took tablets to help them sleep before Wednesday's rearranged clash.

Johnson told The Telegraph: "A lot of the lads take ProPlus tablets before the game and we all took that for the game. Then the game is off and no one can sleep.

"It's not ideal preparation but I'm not blaming that for one bit. It was the same situation for them so it was just strange circumstances."

Johnson featured as England drew 1-1 with Poland in the rearranged fixture.
