Roy Hodgson quiet on Rio Ferdinand songs

Hodgson quiet on Ferdinand songs

Roy Hodgson made "no comment" when asked about some of the chants that were aimed at Rio Ferdinand by England supporters during last night's 8-0 victory against San Marino.

Manchester United defender Ferdinand had been called up to the squad for the encounter, but following a meeting with Hodgson, it was decided that he should withdraw because of his training regime.

Travelling fans in Serravalle made their feelings known by singing songs which told Ferdinand, who was working as a pundit for the game in the Middle East, that his services were no longer were required for the Three Lions.

However, despite admitting that he heard the songs, Hodgson had nothing to say on the matter. "Of course I heard it. I'm not deaf. But I've absolutely no comment to make on it," he told reporters.

Both Hodgson and Ferdinand have previously stated that the centre-back will remain available for selection at international level.
