England boss Roy Hodgson has revealed that Wayne Rooney is being considered for the role of vice-captain.
The Manchester United striker returns from his two-match ban for the Three Lions against Ukraine at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk.
Rooney is rumoured to be in line to start, with either Danny Welbeck or Andy Carroll partnering the 26-year-old. Hodgson has said that a decision is yet to be made, but made it clear that Rooney was a candidate.
"We haven't designated one (a vice-captain) yet but he is very much a candidate," said Hodgson.
"Quite frankly, with him not being available we haven't really felt the necessity before now to decide on that.
"But we are very much considering him for that position, yes."
A draw against Ukraine would guarantee England a spot in the last eight after picking up four points from their opening two games against France and Sweden.
