Harry Kane eyes Wayne Rooney's record

Harry Kane has admitted that he is targeting Wayne Rooney's record of most goals scored by an England player after netting in the 2-0 victory over Switzerland.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Kane made the breakthrough at Wembley, before Rooney found the net from the spot to replace Sir Bobby Charlton as England's leading goalscorer.

Rooney's penalty took his international tally to 50 goals, and Kane is hopeful of emulating the success achieved by the Manchester United and England captain.

"That's the aim, Rooney has set the mark and will probably go on to score quite a few more hopefully for us," the 22-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"We'll see where he ends up and hopefully I'll be chasing him down. It's a huge honour [to celebrate with him], I grew up watching him score goals for England, so to share that moment with him on the pitch, it's a special moment for me as well.

"I'm sure he's very proud of what he has achieved and I'm sure he can go on and get many more for England."

Kane has scored three goals in four appearances for England.
