Jordan Henderson admits that he would "love" to join Team GB at the Olympics next summer.

Liverpool's Jordan Henderson has said that he would "love" to be part of Team GB at the Olympics next summer.

The midfielder has struggled following his high-price move from Sunderland in June and is unlikely to be named in Fabio Capello's senior side for the European Championships.

However, as captain of Stuart Peace's Under-21 side, Henderson has emerged as a favourite to make Team GB.

"I'm happy with the way things have gone," he is quoted as saying in The Mirror. "I went to Liverpool and I'm improving, there are great players I can learn from and I love playing for England Under-21s.

"I tend not to think about the captaincy too much – I'm still a player for the team and I need to focus on my job – but I try to lead by example.

"Everyone would love to play in the Olympic team," he continued. "Anyone who is picked will be grateful. It should be British players, not just English players, but that's not up to me."

The 21-year-old has made 11 league appearances for Liverpool this season and scored one goal.
