Alan Shearer: 'Wayne Rooney cannot be dislodged in England setup'

Former England striker Alan Shearer believes that record goalscorer Wayne Rooney will be starring for England for years to come.

Former England striker Alan Shearer has praised Wayne Rooney for consistently starring in the Three Lions' setup for over a decade.

The Manchester United striker broke Bobby Charlton's all-time England goalscoring record by firing home from the penalty spot in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Switzerland in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Shearer, joint sixth on the list, told BBC Sport: "It's a fantastic achievement to have stayed at the top for so many years.

"Rooney has been around for so many years and no-one has come in and taken the shirt off him and I can't see anyone doing that for the next few years."

Rooney made his Three Lions debut in 2003, aged 17.
