Rooney out of Norway clash

Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of England's friendly with Norway on Saturday, May 26 because of a toe injury.

The Manchester United forward needs more time to rest his foot and will link up with Roy Hodgson's squad on Tuesday, May 29, along with Chelsea's Champions League-winning quartet of John Terry, Gary Cahill, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole.

"Wayne has been playing with a slight injury for the last three or four games," explained Hodgson.

"It needed a couple of weeks to really clear up.

"I offered Wayne a few more days' rest but he said, 'I want to be part of the squad for the friendly with Belgium on June 2'."

Rooney will also miss England's first two Euro 2012 Group D games against France and Sweden through suspension.
