Gerrard named in UEFA Euro 2012 team

England captain Steven Gerrard has been named in UEFA's team of the tournament from Euro 2012.

The Liverpool midfielder is the only Englishman to be included in the 23-man team alongside 10 members of the Spain squad, who retained their crown with an impressive 4-0 victory over Italy in the final of the elite tournament last night.

Manchester City and Italy frontman Mario Balotelli was included in the team, while Germany duo Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil also made the cut.

Meanwhile, Spain and Barcelona playmaker Andres Iniesta was named the player of the tournament by the European governing body.

UEFA's Euro 2012 team of the tournament:

Goalkeepers: Buffon, Casillas, Neuer

Defenders: Pique, Coentrao, Lahm, Pepe, Ramos, Alba

Midfielders: De Rossi, Gerrard, Xavi, Iniesta Khedira, Busquets, Ozil, Pirlo, Xabi Alonso

Forwards: Balotelli, Fabregas, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, Silva
