Elversberg vs Bayern - prediction, team news, lineups

Bayern Munich will look to bounce back from an uncharacteristic draw in the Bundesliga when they take on hosts Elversberg at URSAPHARM-Arena an der Kaiserlinde on Sunday.

The Bavarians' goalless stalemate with Schalke on September 5 means they are sixth with four points after two matchweeks, whereas their newly-promoted opponents are fourth with six points.

Match preview

Many have predicted that Elversberg will be one of the teams to be demoted to the 2. Bundesliga given 2026-27 is their first ever top-flight campaign, and while that could still happen, their 4-3 success against Borussia Monchengladbach on September 5 highlighted their fighting spirit.

The club's 3-2 victory against Bayer Leverkusen in matchweek one was also remarkable, and they come into their latest match having won all three of their fixtures this term.

It may be a slight concern to boss Vincent Wagner that his side have conceded six times already in all competitions this season, though it is impressive that no other team in the Bundesliga has scored more than them in the league (seven).

Black and White have only played one game at home so far in 2026-27, beating Leverkusen on August 29, and that extended their winning streak at URSAPHARM-Arena an der Kaiserlinde to four games.

Elversberg kept two clean sheets in that stretch, while they found the back of the net on 14 occasions.

Bayern have never claimed maximum points in a Bundesliga season, so dropping points should not panic supporters, but their failure to score at all against newly-promoted Schalke was concerning.

That result is the only time in Vincent Kompany last 60 competitive outings as boss that his side blanked in the final third.

The visitors did respond to that stalemate with a 5-0 victory against Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League on Thursday, though they were made to wait until the second half for their first goal of the match.

Sunday's clash will be the first time that Bayern's senior team has faced Elversberg, but fans will not be overly concerned by the unfamiliar nature of their opponents given the visitors have won 20 and drawn six of their last 26 away outings in the top flight.

The Bavarians scored at least three goals in 13 of their 18 most recent away fixtures in the Bundesliga, winning 14 of those matches.

Team News

Elversberg only have two injury concerns, with defender Luis Seifert (ankle) and winger Tom Zimmerschied (back) ruled out of Sunday's game.

Lukas Pinckert and Maximilian Rohr are the most likely duo to play in the middle of a four-man defence, while Lukas Petkov and Cole Campbell may flank striker David Mokwa.

Bayern number nine Harry Kane scored on Thursday, becoming only the fourth ever player to net in eight consecutive Champions League games, and he will lead an attack also featuring Michael Olise and Luis Diaz.

With injuries clearing up at the back, Kompany, could field a defence consisting of Josip Stanisic, Jonathan Tah, Kim Min-Jae and Nathaniel Brown.

Joshua Kimmich is a certain inclusion in midfield, and the German is likely to be partnered by Aleksandar Pavlovic.

Elversberg possible starting lineup:

Kristof; Gyamerah, Pinckert, Rohr, Gunther; Keidel, Poreba; Petkov, Onyeka, Campbell; Mokwa

Bayern Munich possible starting lineup:

Neuer; Stanisic, Tah, Kim, Brown; Kimmich, Pavlovic; Olise, Saibari, Diaz; Kane

We say: Elversberg 1-4 Bayern Munich

Though Elversberg have started their season in excellent fashion, it is difficult to see them surviving an encounter with Bayern.

The visitors' overwhelming firepower should be enough to get the better of their hosts, even if they fail to keep a clean sheet.
