Report: Steve McClaren job safe at Derby County

A report claims that Steve McClaren will not be sacked as manager of Derby County, despite a poor end to the Championship season which saw his position come under fire.

Derby County chief executive Sam Rush reportedly has no intention of sacking under-fire manager Steve McClaren.

Reports emerged on Thursday night claiming that the former England boss had been shown the iPro Stadium exit, following a disappointing end to the campaign which saw the Rams miss out on the Championship playoffs.

McClaren is said to have held boardroom talks with clubs chiefs yesterday afternoon, with Burnley's Sean Dyche and Real Madrid assistant Paul Clement both rumoured to have been lined up as replacements.

However, BBC Sport suggests that the 54-year-old's job at Derby is safe for the immediate future, although further discussions will be held prior to the start of next season.

McClaren, who allegedly turned down an approach to take over at Newcastle United earlier this month, has two years left to run on his current deal.
