Kevin Phillips targets promotion with Derby

Kevin Phillips has revealed that he is looking to help Derby County earn a place in the Premier League after becoming their new assistant coach.

The 42-year-old has left his position as first-team coach at Leicester City to become part of Paul Clement's coaching staff at the iPro Stadium.

Phillips was in the Leicester side that won promotion from the Championship two seasons ago and he has said that he wants to now achieve that feat as a coach.

"I've won promotion to the Premier League a few times as a player, and hopefully I can do it as part of Derby's coaching staff," The Chronicle quotes Phillips as saying.

"I'm delighted to be here. It's a new challenge for me, working with Paul Clement who is one of the most exciting young head coaches around, and also alongside fellow assistant coach John Peacock.

"Derby have been very close to promotion for a couple of seasons but have just fallen short, but we will be working hard to make sure the club does not miss out this year."

Derby host Burnley on Monday.
