Wayne Burnett hails Dagenham & Redbridge's "never-say-die attitude"

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett hails his side's resilience after watching them draw 1-1 at Burton Albion.

Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett has praised his side's resilience after they earned a 1-1 draw at Burton Albion, despite playing for most of the second half with just 10 men.

Lawson D'Ath fired the Daggers in front just before the break, but Burton began to dominate the contest after teenage full-back Jack Connors was sent off in the 54th minute for picking up his second yellow card of the afternoon.

Substitute Billy Kee levelled the game on 69 minutes, but the Brewers were unable to find a winner, although they came close, hitting the woodwork in stoppage time.

Burnett told reporters: "It was a very, very tough game in the end, but my players showed fantastic character and a never-say-die attitude.

"I felt we were in control and scored a very, very good goal, but the sending-off changed the game."

He added: "I thought we were more than a match for them 11 v 11, but the referee felt he had no choice but to send Jack off and that changed the complexion of the game."

Dagenham are currently ninth in the League Two table, seven points below the playoffs.
