Alan Pardew to sign new Crystal Palace contract

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew reveals that he will sign a new contract at the club after their Premier League status was mathematically secured.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has revealed that he will sign a new contract with the club after their Premier League status was mathematically secured this afternoon.

The Eagles finally passed the 40-point mark courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Stoke City at Selhurst Park today, with Dwight Gayle scoring both goals for his side.

It was only Palace's second win in their last 20 league games, and Pardew revealed that he didn't want to sign a new deal until it was confirmed that the club would be playing Premier League football next season.

"The contract was agreed some time ago but I know this football club and it was very important that our status was secured for me to warrant that contract in my opinion. Now it is, I will happily sign it," he told reporters.

"There has been no question of me not signing it unless we went down, then I would have to ask them if they wanted to do it if I am honest. So, there is no problem with my commitment to this football club. We have a great opportunity.

"I don't think in the history of this club we have had four years in the top division, and I am in a privileged position in that we have investment from America. Steve Parish is on the rudder steering us to hopefully becoming a bigger club, and the biggest in south London, and that is what we want to be."

Palace will finish their season away to Southampton next weekend.
