Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson admits that losing 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur via an 88th-minute goal is "a cruel blow".

Roy Hodgson has described Crystal Palace's last-gasp 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur as a "cruel blow".

The Eagles were edging towards a draw in Sunday's Premier League encounter at Selhurst Park, only for Harry Kane to snatch all three points with a header in the 88th minute.

Palace now sit just above the Premier League relegation zone in 17th place and are only ahead of Swansea City on goal difference.

"It's a cruel blow, but we know what a cruel game football is, so we have to pick ourselves up and try and go again," Hodgson told Sky Sports News.

"At the moment we don't have the firepower and the players that we would need to go toe-to-toe with these teams.

"We're going to have to try hard and defend well and in depth, work a lot harder in keeping the opposition at bay and hope not to get the dagger thrust at the 88th minute, hoping you would see it through and get a point."

Palace play Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool in three of their next four fixtures.
