Crystal Palace confirm the appointment of Oliver Glasner as their new manager following the departure of Roy Hodgson.

Crystal Palace have confirmed the appointment of Oliver Glasner as their new manager following the departure of Roy Hodgson.

The Eagles announced on Monday afternoon that Hodgson has decided to step down from his post to allow the club to "bring forward their plans for a new manager".

Hodgson was sent to hospital last Friday after being taken ill during a training session, but Palace have since confirmed that he "is now out of hospital and doing well".

The 76-year-old had been under increased pressure to keep his job after suffering 10 defeats in his last 16 Premier League matches in charge of Palace, who currently sit 16th in the table and only five points above the relegation zone.

In a bid to turn their fortunes around, Palace have turned to 49-year-old Austrian boss Glasner, who has signed a contract that runs until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Speaking to the club's official website about his appointment, Glasner said: "I am very happy to join Crystal Palace F.C. as manager. I am looking forward to working with the talented squad, meeting the club's supporters and experiencing the Selhurst Park atmosphere I have heard so much about.

"It has been a pleasure to meet with Steve [Parish] and Dougie [Freeman], and I am looking forward to working with them to achieve our goals."

Palace chairman Parish added: "I'm delighted to welcome Oliver to the club. He has an outstanding record, and we believe he is the right manager to take the club forward at this pivotal stage.

"Wherever Oliver has gone so far in his managerial journey, success has been quick to follow, and we believe his ambition, as well as his exciting and attacking approach is the perfect fit for getting the most from our talented young squad in the remainder of this Premier League season and beyond."

Palace have thanked the Football Association "for their prompt assistance in providing the relevant Governing Body Endorsements, and to the Home Office for processing the applications so efficiently."

Following a 21-year playing career with Austrian outfit SV Ried, Glasner has since spent the last decade in management, beginning with Ried before moving on to LASK Linz, Wolfsburg and Frankfurt.

Glasner gained recognition on the managerial circuit during his time in the German Bundesliga with Wolfsburg, who secured their third-highest points tally in the club's history under his tutelage in the 2020-21 campaign, as well as qualification for the Champions League courtesy of a top-four finish.

He then spent two years with Frankfurt and managed the club to a to historic Europa League triumph in 2021-22 - the club's first continental trophy in over 40 years.

Glasner is now tasked with steering his new club Crystal Palace away from the Premier League relegation zone, but he will not be in charge of Monday night's clash against Everton at Goodison Park.

Instead, Hodgson's former assistants Paddy McCarthy and Ray Lewington will lead the team on Merseyside.
