John Carver: 'Alan Pardew will have a surprise up his sleeve'

Newcastle United manager John Carver insists that former boss Alan Pardew is likely to have a surprise up his sleeve when the Magpies face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Newcastle United manager John Carver has suggested that former boss Alan Pardew will have a "surprise up his sleeve" when he welcomes his old club to Selhurst Park on Wednesday night.

Carver will be taking the Magpies down to London to face Pardew's Crystal Palace, with Newcastle's stand-in well aware that Pardew will know how his old club works on the pitch.

"Alan will have a surprise up his sleeve, there'll be something out of the ordinary that he'll throw in during the game," said Carver, according to The Guardian.

"It could be a set play, it could be something else but he'll do it because he's a bit like that.

"In the four or five games I've seen Palace in I can definitely see his stamp being put on the team. They've got a good team, they've got a good group of players and because he's a good coach he's getting the best out of them."

Newcastle currently hold 11th spot in the Premier League standings.
