Crewe Alexandra sign Ben Nugent from Cardiff City

Crewe Alexandra have secured the signing of Ben Nugent from Cardiff City on a free transfer.

A product of the Cardiff academy, the 22-year-old managed to make just 14 first-team appearances for the club, but he was a regular for Yeovil Town during his loan spell at Huish Park last season.

Nugent, who has also spent time on loan at Brentford and Peterborough United, joins Crewe on a two-year deal as Steve Davis strengthens the squad once again in a bid to improve on last season's 20th-place finish in League One.

Davis could hand Nugent a debut in Saturday's opener against Port Vale.
