Coventry City are reportedly on the brink of signing Manchester City defender Stephen Mfuni.
The Sky Blues are still reeling from their 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the opening match of the 2026-27 Premier League campaign.
However, Frank Lampard would have been realistic about his side's chances at the home of the champions, while he is also still finalising his squad.
Although nine players have been signed on permanent deals, the Englishman has plans in place to make further additions.
According to talkSPORT's Alex Crook, last season's Championship winners will be soon adding a Man City starlet to their ranks.
Coventry to sign Man City prospect Mfuni
The report says that Mfuni is 'set to join' Coventry, with other outlets adding that it will be a loan deal.
Mfuni, who is just 18 years of age, made his Man City debut in January, featuring for 45 minutes in a 10-1 victory over Exeter City in the FA Cup.
He was subsequently loaned to Watford, where he made eight starts in the Championship and contributed to the Hornets earning nine points during his stay at Vicarage Road.
Nevertheless, the centre-back did not feature from the middle of March onwards, and is now seemingly looking for a fresh start.
At this point in time, it is unclear whether Coventry view the England Under-19 international as an immediate first-team starter or a backup squad member.
Are Coventry wasting a Premier League loan spot?
With Coventry only able to loan two players at any one time from other Premier League clubs, they are under pressure to use that allocation wisely.
Bringing in an inexperienced player such as Mfuni will be viewed as a surprise move by Lampard.
However, with Mfuni being under the age of 21 and club-trained, he does not count towards Coventry's loan allocation.
