League One roundup: Swindon Town win thriller with Sheffield United

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday's League One action as Swindon beat Sheffield United 5-2, while MK Dons move into a second with a 6-1 win over bottom side Crewe.

Swindon Town survived a second half comeback from Sheffield United to win 5-2 and consolidate their place in the League One playoff spots.

A brace from Michael Smith and one from Jonathan Obika looked to have given the Robins victory, but Marc McNulty and Ben Davies both scored to give the Blades hope of a recovery.

However, Andy Williams and Louis Thompson struck late on to seal Swindon the three points.

MK Dons enjoyed a far more comfortable day in their push for promotion as Dele Alli netted a hat-trick in a 6-1 thrashing of Crewe Alexandra. The result moves the hosts into second.

Doncaster Rovers had to stave off two fightbacks from Chesterfield to win 3-2 at the Keepmoat Stadium, with Sam Clucas and Eoin Doyle netting for the Spireites.

Rochdale move to the brink of the playoff places after a solitary Ian Henderson penalty saw off Coventry City at Spotland.

Jobi McAnuff's second-half strike was enough to help boost Leyton Orient's faltering start to the season with a 2-1 win at Scunthorpe United.

Struggling Port Vale won for just the second time this season as Mark Marshall's 89th-minute strike gave the Staffordshire club a 2-1 win over Barnsley, although Vale remain in the bottom four.

Preston North End climbed to eighth in the table with a 2-0 victory over goal-shy Crawley Town, with Bailey Wright and Joe Garner netting for the Lancashire outfit.

Elsewhere, there were three goalless draws in the games involving Colchester United and Bradford City, Gillingham and Walsall, and Oldham Athletic and Notts County, who have now drawn three in a row.
