Chesterfield captain Ian Evatt "punched, kicked and spat on" by Preston North End fans

Chesterfield captain Ian Evatt has claimed that he was "punched, kicked and spat on several times" by rival fans after their playoff defeat at Preston North End.

The 33-year-old said that he was assaulted after the Spireites were beaten 3-0 in the second leg of their semi-final at Deepdale to lose 4-0 on aggregate.

According to BBC Sport, Lancashire Police confirmed that a Chesterfield player had contacted them to report an alleged assault.
