Head coach Thomas Tuchel says that he and Antonio Rudiger remain "calm" regarding discussions over a new contract for the Chelsea defender.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has acknowledged that he has to "accept" the length of time that it may take for the Blues to agree a new contract with Antonio Rudiger.

Despite the Premier League leaders said to be in frequent dialogue with the 28-year-old, it has been suggested that the Germany international has been left frustrated with the offers that he has received.

Unless Rudiger pens fresh terms before the end of the year, he will be able to hold discussions with foreign clubs during the January transfer window.

While Tuchel has acknowledged that he wants Rudiger to commit his future to Chelsea, he insists that his compatriot remains "calm" about the situation.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Tuchel said: "I think it is pretty clear what we want. We have to accept that there are situations where they things that can feel in a bit of a delay, and that may take their time, but I am very, very sure that Toni feels how respected and what an important role he plays at this club.

"I think that he is up for the toughest challenge, Premier League football, to win titles. He is a big part of a big club, and I am very sure that he is aware of it.

"I am calm because I feel that Toni is calm. I feel the situation here is calm inside. I am happy that he plays how he plays. We need him on this kind of level."

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are said to be among the clubs who are preparing to speak with Rudiger at the beginning of next year.
