Shakhtar Donetsk encourage Chelsea Douglas Costa move

Shakhtar Donetsk want Chelsea to lodge a suitable offer for Douglas Costa before the transfer window closes.

Shakhtar Donetsk have told Chelsea to stump up the money required to sign Douglas Costa before tonight's 11pm deadline.

The Brazilian midfielder has been linked with a £16m switch to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, with Costa previously admitting that he would jump at the opportunity.

However, Shakhtar's CEO Sergey Palkin says that the want-away 24-year-old - whose contract expires in 2018 - will be staying in Ukraine unless the Blues table a suitable offer.

"Yes, it is true that Douglas Costa said in an interview that he would like to try his skills at Chelsea," he told Sport Express.

"This is good, but first the clubs need to reach an agreement. After this happens, Costa can go and talk to the media about his desire to play for Chelsea.

"Asking won't do anything. He has a contract that he is required to fulfill. If we reach an agreement with Chelsea – he's going to London. If not, he's staying with Shakhtar."

Chelsea are thought to be on the verge of signing Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado in a deal that will see Mohamed Salah move in the opposite direction.

Andre Schurrle is also understood to have signed for Wolfsburg.
