Max Eberl: 'Borussia Monchengladbach would spend big on Andreas Christensen'

Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl says that the club are prepared to break their transfer record to sign Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.

Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has suggested that the German club are prepared to pay more than £11.5m to sign Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.

The Dane has recently returned to Stamford Bridge after making 31 Bundesliga appearances for Monchengladbach last season but after making a huge impact at Borussia-Park, Eberl has admitted that they want to sign the 20-year-old on a permanent basis.

Eberl is quoted by Bild as saying: "In the case of Christensen, of course we are ready to make a record transfer. We know that a player with his quality is not cheap."

Monchengladbach recently spent £11.5m to sign Christoph Kramer but with the club securing Champions League football with a third-place finish in Germany's top flight last season, they are prepared to spend big to keep hold of Christensen.

He has started two games in cup competitions for the Blues but his one and only appearance in the Premier League came as a 78th-minute substitute against Sunderland on the final day of the 2014-15 season.
