Chelsea transfer news: Major Deivid Washington development in decision that could impact Blues outcasts

Chelsea to confirm second surprise striker recall in decision that could impact Blues outcasts

Chelsea have allegedly decided to cut short Deivid Washington's loan spell with Santos.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge in a £17.2m deal in August 2023, it has become clear that the young Brazilian is not ready for Premier League football.

Although Deivid featured for 25 minutes across three games under Mauricio Pochettino, no opportunities have been provided by Enzo Maresca.

The 20-year-old has racked up an impressive 14 goals and one assist from 22 appearances for Chelsea Under-21s, but he was allowed to return to former club Santos on loan back in February.

There had been hope that being back in familiar surroundings would enable Deivid to start to deliver on his potential, motivated by playing alongside idol Neymar.

Chelsea make Deivid Washington decision

Instead, as per Diario do Peixe, Chelsea have taken the decision to recall Deivid given his lack of impact.

A total of five starts and 12 substitute appearances have been made in Brasileiro, Deivid's only goal coming back in April.

Although Deivid was introduced off the bench in recent matches on August 24 and August 31, Santos failed to score while he was on the pitch.

With one goal in 687 minutes of football at Santos, Chelsea are bringing Deivid back to England before making a decision on his future.

How will Chelsea handle Deivid future?

Given that Liam Delap will be injured until the back end of October at the earliest, Chelsea could take the decision to keep Deivid at the club and use him in the Under-21s.

On the flip side, though, a wide array of European leagues have transfer windows that are still open between now and September 15.

Courtesy of five years still remaining on Deivid's contract, Chelsea can afford to find him a new loan club in order to see how he fares in Europe.

There is also the possibility that Chelsea use the foreign loan slot that was allocated to Deivid on one of their high-earners such as Axel Disasi, Raheem Sterling or David Datro Fofana.

As such, an immediate decision may not be forthcoming as club officials weigh up any proposals that come their way in the short term.
