Chelsea 'step up Mount contract talks amid Liverpool interest'

Chelsea are reportedly set to step up contract talks with Mason Mount amid interest from Liverpool.

The 24-year-old, who has been at the club since he was six years old, has 18 months left on his current deal, and the club are yet to meet his wage demands.

The Guardian reports that Jurgen Klopp could take advantage of the situation by launching a bid for Mount in the summer if the stalemate is not resolved, as he looks to rebuild the Reds midfield.

The report states that the player wants Chelsea to prove that they value him, as he is currently one of the lowest earners at the club, on £75,000 per week.

Chelsea are reluctant to lose one of their star players, especially to a top-six rival, but must act quickly, with the Reds and Italian giants Juventus preparing to make a move in the summer.

The 36-cap England international has featured 26 times so far this season for the Blues, scoring three goals and assisting six.
