Chelsea transfer news: Al-Nassr reach full Joao Felix agreement as 'heavy sell-on clause' revealed

Chelsea negotiate 'heavy sell-on clause' as Al-Nassr reach Felix agreement

Chelsea and Al-Nassr have reportedly come to a full agreement over a deal for Portuguese attacker Joao Felix.

The 25-year-old has been expected to depart Stamford Bridge just one year after his permanent arrival, and a return to boyhood club Benfica was initially thought to be on the cards.

However, reports on Saturday evening claimed that Al-Nassr had hijacked the Eagles' move for Felix, who had also given the green light to a move to Saudi Arabia.

Negotiations between the two clubs have progressed quickly ever since, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now given Felix to Al-Nassr his trademark 'here we go'.

The former Atletico Madrid attacker has apparently been given the thumbs-up to fly to the Middle East and undergo his medical with Al-Nassr, who will pay €30m (£26.2m) plus add-ons for Felix's signature.

That figure conflicts with earlier reports claiming that Chelsea were set to pocket between £40m and £45m through Felix's sale, thereby only making a small loss on the £45.5m they paid for him in 2024.

However, Romano adds that Al-Nassr and Chelsea have agreed to a 'heavy sell-on clause', which if activated will see the total fee come closer to Chelsea's €50m (£43.7m) valuation.

Felix's move to Al-Nassr will see the 25-year-old share a dressing room with compatriot and five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as Sadio Mane, Aymeric Laporte and Marcelo Brozovic.

The Portugal international will leave Chelsea having only amassed 11 goals and two assists in 40 matches for the Blues across two separate spells, having first joined on loan in the second half of the 2022-23 season.

Felix netted seven goals in the first half of last season, but only one of those efforts came in the Premier League, and he subsequently bagged just three goals in 21 matches for AC Milan on loan.

Felix to Al-Nassr: A good deal for Chelsea?

Let us not forget that Felix was not Chelsea's number one option last summer; the Portugal international joined to allow Conor Gallagher to complete his switch to Atletico Madrid after the Samu Aghehowa saga.

With Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro, Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap vying for the central roles in Enzo Maresca's system, there was no prospect of Felix reigniting his Blues career this season, especially after his mediocre spell in Milan.

Offloading the Portuguese attacker permanently as opposed to another loan exit is already a strong piece of business from the Blues, although they may have hoped for a heftier upfront fee rather than banking on a sell-on clause to help them recoup most of the money they spent.
