Chelsea transfer news: Marc Cucurella to be 'targeted' in £60.7m bid

Chelsea defender Cucurella to be 'targeted' in £60.7m transfer bid

Chelsea may soon reportedly need to fend off interest in defender Marc Cucurella.

Despite a poor first season after his big-money transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion, Cucurella has since developed into one of the best left-backs in world football.

In just over 12 months, Cucurella has starred for Spain in their Euro 2024 triumph and Chelsea's success at the recent Club World Cup.

Although there is a wide array of talent at Stamford Bridge, there is an argument that the 27-year-old has become one of the first names on Enzo Maresca's team sheet.

However, according to Fichajes, his performances may lead to a mammoth transfer fee being offered for his signature.

Which club wants Cucurella?

The report alleges that Al-Nassr are preparing a €70m (£60.74m) approach for the 17-cap international.

Cristiano Ronaldo is said to have specifically requested that the Saudi Pro League club attempt to sign Cucurella this summer.

Ronaldo, who recently signed a new deal at Al-Nassr, allegedly wants Cucurella to be viewed as a priority signing.

Chelsea have just conducted business with their Al-Nassr counterparts with Joao Felix making the permanent switch to the Middle East.

As it stands, though, Al-Nassr will have a much tougher time trying to get the green light to sign Cucurella, even with just three years left on his contract.

By Chelsea's standards, that is relatively low, and Cucurella may feel in a strong position to negotiate improved terms over the coming weeks.

Chelsea, Cucurella in curious position

While there can be no doubt that Cucurella is a bonafide Chelsea star, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are at a point in their tenure where some of the players that they signed below the age of 25 are getting older.

Cucurella is one of four 27-year-olds in the squad that are the eldest at a time when the club do not target players of that age in the transfer market.

Realistically-speaking, Chelsea chiefs will give no consideration to selling Cucurella, but moving to the brink of signing 19-year-old Jorrel Hato shows that they are planning for the future.

Boehly and Clearlake will not want Cucurella's contract to run down to two years remaining and some necessary conversations may take place in due course.
