Nicolas Anelka aims to see out Chelsea contract

Nicolas Anelka aims to see out the final year of his Chelsea contract.

Nicolas Anelka aims to see out the final year of his Chelsea contract before leaving on a free transfer next summer.

The French international has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer but insists that he will honour his current deal.

"I want to stay on until the end of my contract in one year and after that we will see what happens," he said.

"I'm okay with one year," the 32-year-old added. "That's fine for me. I said in the beginning, when I signed, that I wanted to stay until I finished my contract. I still have one more year and I am happy."

However, the forward expects tough competition for a starting place this season.

"When you play for a team like Chelsea you will have to fight for your place," he admitted. "We have a lot of good strikers here."

The Blues signed Anelka for £18m from Bolton Wanderers in 2008 after spells with PSG, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City and Fenerbahce.
