How Chelsea could line up against Manchester City

Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up for Thursday's Premier League clash with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea host Premier League football at Stamford Bridge for the first time since March 8 on Thursday night as they welcome champions Manchester City to West London.

Frank Lampard's side enhanced their Champions League hopes courtesy of a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Aston Villa in their first game back, benefiting from many of those around them also dropping points.

Chelsea now sit five points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United and could move to within one point of Leicester City in third with another victory on Thursday.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the Blues could line up for the contest.

Chelsea are able to welcome Jorginho back into the fold after he completed his two-match ban against Aston Villa, and the Italian could come straight back into the starting lineup for this one.

N'Golo Kante filled in as the holding midfielder on Sunday but could move onto the right of the trio - as he has for much of the campaign so far - with Mateo Kovacic also likely to start despite competition from Ross Barkley, Billy Gilmour, Mason Mount and the fit-again Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Up front, Christian Pulisic will hope to have earned himself a starting spot having come off the bench to score against Villa, and Olivier Giroud joined him on the scoresheet soon after so will be expecting to lead the line ahead of Tammy Abraham once again.

Callum Hudson-Odoi remains doubtful due to an ankle injury but could be back in contention by Thursday night, while Willian and Pedro offer Chelsea further options in the wide areas.

Fikayo Tomori is the only defensive absentee, and Lampard could name an unchanged back five to the one which started against Aston Villa, with Andreas Christensen partnering Antonio Rudiger at centre-back.
