Andre Villas-Boas undaunted by Manchester clubs

Andre Villas-Boas is not intimidated by the Manchester clubs' flying starts to the season.

Andre Villas-Boas has said that he's not intimidated by the flawless Premier League campaign starts of Manchester United and Manchester City.

The North West clubs sit atop the table with nine points after three games while Chelsea are in fourth place with seven points, having drawn against Stoke in their season opener.

Chelsea have scored five goals compared to United's 13 - including eight against Arsenal - and City's 12.

However, the new manager is confident that they can close the gap.

"It's good for them," he said. "They've gone on to score a lot of goals and it's good for British football. We just hope to score one more goal than the opponents.

"Manchester United played to perfection against Arsenal and managed to score a lot. They are, with Man City, leading the table for the Premier League and we are two behind them.

"We want to grab them. Our objective is on shortening the distance and not on what the others do in terms of performance."

Villas-Boas added that his side are on the right track and creating chances, but need to improve each week in order to catch up with the opposition.

"We just need to improve on the quality and fluency of the game," he said. "Let's see what kind of response we have now."

Chelsea will face Sunderland, who have yet to win a game this season, away at the Stadium of Light tomorrow (Saturday).
