John Terry hails new Chelsea captain Gary Cahill

John Terry backs Antonio Conte's decision to appoint Gary Cahill as Chelsea's new captain on a permanent basis.

John Terry has backed Antonio Conte's decision to appoint Gary Cahill as Chelsea's new captain.

Cahill skippered the Blues for long spells of the 2016-17 campaign, although Terry was officially the Premier League club's skipper last term.

Terry left Stamford Bridge for Aston Villa this summer, however, and Blues boss Conte revealed last weekend that 31-year-old defender Cahill will lead the team into the new season.

Terry has taken to his official Instagram account to pay tribute to his former teammate, insisting that the former Bolton centre-back has the credentials to lead the Blues to more success.

Cahill joined Chelsea from Bolton in 2011, since which the 55-time England international has made 239 appearances for the London giants and managed 25 goals in the process.
