Gary Neville: 'Chelsea's Diego Costa should escape ban for stamp'

Gary Neville believes that Chelsea striker Diego Costa should not be punished with a three-game ban for allegedly stamping on Emre Can in Tuesday's League Cup semi-final.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville believes that Diego Costa does not deserve to be banned by the Football Association for his alleged stamp against Liverpool.

The Spain international was charged with violent conduct after appearing to stamp on Emre Can's ankle at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

Costa, who could face a three-match ban if found guilty, committed a similar stamp on Martin Skrtel during Chelsea's 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the Capital One Cup semi-final.

Neville believes that the FA panel do not have enough evidence to prove that Costa carried out the incident with malice.

The Sky Sports pundit wrote on Twitter: "My personal view is that Costa in a process should get off his charge. Impossible to prove he meant it and he doesn't look at the player."

Costa has appealed against the charge.
