Karl Darlow: 'Eden Hazard penalty annoyed me'

Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow admits to being "annoyed" by Eden Hazard's penalty in the Magpies' 3-1 loss to Chelsea but praises him for "a great penalty".

Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow has admitted that he was "annoyed" by Eden Hazard's cheeky chip in the Magpies' 3-1 loss at Chelsea this afternoon but has congratulated the player on "a great penalty".

The Blues were already 2-1 up heading into the final 15 minutes of the encounter at Stamford Bridge when they were awarded a spot kick after Matt Ritchie brought Victor Moses to ground.

Hazard then made no mistake with his effort, sending Darlow the wrong way with a Panenka dink to wrap up all three points for Antonio Conte's side.

The result extended Newcastle's winless streak in the league to six games - a run that has seen them pick up just one point, score just four goals and concede 14.

"I think the gameplan was to stay in the game as long as we could," Darlow told Sky Sports News. "At half time, when we were 2-1 down, we wanted to get to 80 minutes and nick something. They're a good side though. We keep battling on.

"The chip [from Hazard's penalty] annoyed me a little bit. I'd be lying if I said it didn't, but it's a great penalty.

"There are positives. We've gone to Manchester United and Chelsea and done alright in spells but you get punished at this level. We have to keep improving."

Newcastle's next chance to get more points on the board will come at home to Leicester City next Saturday evening.
