Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has voiced his opposition to suggestions that promotion and relegation in the Premier League should be scrapped.
Richard Bevan, chief executive of the League Managers Association, told the Professional Players Federation conference that a number of club owners are keen to make the Premier League insular.
"If there's one thing that makes the Premier League proud it is her established rules of the past, the history that has prolonged through time in English football," Villas-Boas said.
"That is something that must be taken very seriously into account.
"So that is where I stand. I wouldn't make any changes."
Bevan claimed that overseas owners want to abolish relegation because of the considerable losses of income suffered by clubs dropping out of the top flight.
