Terry hit with three-match European ban

Chelsea's John Terry has been ordered to serve a three-match ban from European football for his red card against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final.

The Blues skipper, who has already sat out of the Champions League final, will now miss the European Super Cup match against Atletico Madrid and Chelsea's first game as defending champions.

Governing body UEFA found Terry guilty of violent conduct following a challenge on Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez, in which the defender drove his knee into his opponent.

Terry, who is currently preparing for Euro 2012 with the England squad, has yet to announce whether he plans to appeal against the ruling.
