Preview: Chelsea Women vs. Aston Villa Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Chelsea Women and Aston Villa Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Chelsea Women will look to extend their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions when they welcome Aston Villa Women to Kingsmeadow on Sunday.

The visitors, meanwhile, have lost their last two Women's Super League games after beginning the campaign with two straight league victories.

Chelsea are currently in imperious form after winning their last six games in all competitions, with their most recent game resulting in a comfortable 8-0 victory over Vllaznia.

Seven of their eight goals were scored by two players as Sam Kerr racked up four and Pernille Harder registered a hat-trick, while Katerina Svitkova also got on the scoresheet.

With the Blues currently top of their Champions League group with two wins from two games, they will turn their attention to WSL action on Sunday.

Chelsea head into the weekend in third place and level on points with Arsenal and Manchester United, although the WSL champions have played one game more.

They will be aiming for a seventh consecutive victory that would ensure they keep pace with their rivals ahead of an away meeting with Man United next week.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa will be looking to avoid a third straight defeat in the WSL after losing to West Ham United and Everton in their previous two league games.

The Villans fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Everton last weekend, leaving them in seventh place in the WSL with six points to their name.

Carla Ward's side face the Toffees once again in midweek, and although the League Cup game ended in a 1-1 draw, Aston Villa missed out on a bonus point after losing in the subsequent penalty shootout.

With the visitors winless in three games in all competitions, they know that they will need to be at their best if they are to achieve a positive result against the WSL champions.

In their most recent away meeting with Chelsea, the Villans were edged out via a 1-0 scoreline, and at the very least they will be looking for another battling performance on Sunday.

Team News

Chelsea could still be without the services of Jelena Cankovic, who has missed the last four games through injury.

Fran Kirby returned from a short spell on the sidelines to feature as a substitute against Vllaznia, and she is expected to be on the bench once again on Sunday.

After rotating their squad in midweek, the likes of Millie Bright, Erin Cuthbert and Lauren James could all return to the side against Aston Villa.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon the services of Meaghan Sargeant, Remi Allen, Emily Gielnik due to injury issues, while Simone Magill and Ruesha Littlejohn will also miss out.

Ward has confirmed Hannah Hampton and Rachel Daly are available, and the pair are both expected to return to the starting lineup.

Daly will be looking to add to the three league goals that she has scored this season when she features in the forward line alongside Alisha Lehmann and Kirsty Hanson.

Chelsea Women possible starting lineup:
Berger; Bright, Buchanan, Eriksson; Perisset, Cuthbert, Fleming, Reiten; Harder, James, Kerr

Aston Villa Women possible starting lineup:
Hampton; Mayling, Patten, Turner, Pacheco; Blindkilde, Corsie, Dali; Lehmann, Hanson, Daly

We say: Chelsea Women 3-0 Aston Villa Women

Aston Villa may have begun the season with consecutive WSL victories, but after losing their last two league games, we think that they will be beaten comfortably by a Chelsea side who have won their last six matches.
